This box was to record our trip
into China, and is on-going learning of bass relief work.
The front and rear of the box is carved
with two Imperial dragons, one each side of the celestial
pearl. The dragon represents the male power, the Emperor
of China, while the celestial pearl which the dragons returned
to earth represents the wealth of China. Under the pearl
is a representation of the Great Wall.
Each end of the box, inside and out is
carved with a phoenix, representing rebirth and the female
side, the Empress.
The lid is carved with reliefs of some
of the outstanding and ancient buildings of China and is
taken from our photographic record of the journey.

All timber is dark demolition Matai.
The finish is Danish oil.
